Roleplay Guidlines

Post  Borsalino Bege on Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:54 pm

Here is where you may begin to post your RP missions just with your friends on a free for all. However there are certain rules when it comes to the RP boards. The rules are not necessarily restrictions, they are guidelines to help you make a successful story that everyone can enjoy.

۞ Each post should move the story forward in the plot line. You can’t do that in just one sentence…make an effort to type at least two paragraphs to make the story progress. Sometimes a trick to make it a bit bigger is separating your dialogue lines from your descriptions of what is happening. Example:

Vanin and Bege wearily dragged themselves into the clearing. The battle was long and the enemy was present in numbers greater than they anticipated. It was a battle that was almost lost leaving them with a pitiful feeling of dissatisfaction. The morale they hoped for was instead replaced with the fear of the future. Fear. A tactic the Sith mastered well, and a plague that was infecting Station Gamma's inhabitants like a deadly disease.

"That was...too close." Vanin muttered over his shoulder.

"I was hoping it wouldn't have come to this, but we have quite the situation on our hands now." Bege grunted as began to mend himself with a medical kit.

"There is no denying the future its set course. We best prepare for the days ahead carefully or we won't be so lucky next time." The other replied.

After gingerly treating themselves as best they could the two continued their travels through the dense forest. Nothing but the sound of the insects and a slight breeze running through the foliage reached their ears...a welcome noise at this point.

Also details will also make social roleplay very enjoyable. Where are you? What planet? What is it like, what is the weather? Ect. Lastly character traits are also a good thing to throw in to the story.

۞ Spelling and grammar should be correct. It doesn’t kill you to open Word and type your part there. Spell check is a wonderful thing. Sometimes mistakes like that just throw off the story.

۞ Punctuation adds a little notice to your post. Sometimes bolding effects such as noises, or italicizing what your character is thinking makes it more appealing. Try to use the correct quotations when a character is talking.

۞ You may not play another person's character unless they give you permission. This is a solid rule. If you are granted that permission respect how your fellow role-players act their character. If a person makes his character a gun slinging wise cracker then you should characterize him as that when you play him in your post.

۞ Not everyone can be extremely fast at replying to a mission. Be patient.

۞ Be aware of Metagaming. Metagaming can be defined as any out of character action made by a player's character which makes use of knowledge that the character is not meant to be aware of. It is understood to be a common mistake however moderators will be on the look out for it.

۞ Spars and Duels are allowed in this RP section however they must be named (Name Vs. Name) to show the difference between RP missions and duels. The way spars work are a little different when it comes to post by post. The best way to do it is to make a move and then let the next person post, try NOT to play the other character in spars as much. For example:

What NOT to do-

Borsalino Bege punches Vanin in the face.

Correct way of doing it-

Borsalino pulls his arm back ready to land a solid strike to Vanin's face.

۞ There is one final rule that MUST be followed. Please do not in any shape or form “God-Mode” your character. If you are playing a Jedi Padawan chances are a Padawan can’t match a fully trained Sith.

Keep your powers and abilities in check with your characters level. Keep it clean and most of all keep it fun.

In regards to God-Modding as Colonel Bege mentioned in his post I would like to provide an example for everyone so that we all understand what we will consider to be God-Modding:

Extreme Case: Padawan Vanin stood in a circle of 200 Sith Warriors, As he stared down his foes he raised his lightsaber and in one toss arked his ligthsaber so that it be-headed every one of his evil foes. In a matter of seconds the Sith were no more and Vanin walked slowly past the dead Sith with not a scratch on him.

Note: That the character was able to defeat and enemy that grossly out numbered him in numbers and skill but did so without getting a single scratch.

Bad Case: Padawan Vanin piloted his single fighter through the Sith fleet. Heavily out numbered by Sith fighters, Vanin decided to give the Republic Fleet time to escape and engaged the entire Sith Fleet himself. After several intense hours of fighting Vanin though his ship was badly damaged was still fighting the good fight and through sheer grit was able to hold of the Sith Fleet and escape.

Note: Even though the writer added that his ship was badly damaged, the character was still able to survive against numbers that would in a real scenario be impassible to survive.
